James Dean (born 02/08/31 in Marion,IN) began his movie career in 1951 with the film Fixed Bayonets although this was just a small role which was followed up by another small role in the comedySailor Beware and 1952's Has Anybody Seen My Gal? Dean was also in various Television dramas and also appeared on Broadway inSee The Jaguar andThe Immoralist. His three major movie credits are East Of Eden Rebel Without A Cause and Giant. Sadly on September 30, 1955 this amazing actor was killed in an auto accident. |
| Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor was born in London, England on (02/27/32) Her first foray onto the silver screen was in the film, called a short, There's One Born Every Minute released in 1942 when she was ten. After the one film was picked up by MGM. The first production she made with them was Lassie Come Home (1943). Her next two films were minuscule parts in 1944, The White Cliffs Of Dover and Jane Eyre. Then came the film that made Elizabeth a star, MGM's National Velvet in 1944. In 1947, when she was 15, Elizabeth starred in Life With Father. Throughout the balance of the 40's and into the early 50's, Elizabeth appeared in film after film with mostly good results, including 1951's A Place In The Sun(with Montgomery Clift). 1954 proved her busiest year to date with roles in Rhapsody, Beau Brummell, The Last Time I Saw Paris, and Elephant Walk. She was 22. In 1958, Elizabeth starred as Maggie Pollitt, in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Elizabeth was nominated again for another Academy Award for best actress. In 1959, she again appeared in another mega-hit and again another nomination for Suddenly, Last Summer. Her Oscar drought ended in 1960 when Elizabeth landed the coveted honor at last. As Gloria Wandrous in BUTTERFIELD 8. In 1963, Elizabeth starred in CLEOPATRA which was one of the most expensive productions to date as was her salary, said to be a whopping $1, 000, 000. Her next handful of films were lackluster at best, especially 1963's The VIP's. Elizabeth was to return to fine form with her role of Martha in 1966's Who's Afraid Of Virgina Woolf? For this she would win her second Oscar. Since then she has appeared in several films, both for the silver screen and television. She also has appeared on a number of TV programs. Rock Hudson, (born 11/17/25), born Roy Scherer (and later Roy Fitzgerald) was the son of an auto mechanic and a telephone operator who divorced when he was eight years old. He failed to obtain parts in school plays because he couldn't remember lines. After high school he was a postal employee and during WW II served as a Navy airplane mechanic. After the war he was a truck driver. His size and good looks got him into movies. His name was changed to Rock Hudson. He received an Oscar nomination for Giant (1956) and two years later Look magazine named him Star of the Year. He starred in a number of bedroom comedies, many with Doris Day. His films include Magnificent Obesession(1954), Written On The Wind(1956), Pillow Talk(1959), Man's Favourite Sport(1964), Pretty Maids All In A Row(1971), The Mirror Crack'd(which reunited him with Liz Taylor in 1980)& The Ambassador(1984). He also had his own popular TV series "McMillan and Wife" (1971-77). He had a recurring role in TV's Dynasty(1984-5). He was the first major public figure to announce he had AIDS, and his worldwide search for a cure drew international attention. He passed away from complications do to AIDS on Oct 2,1985. |
| Mercedes McCambridge (born 03/17/1918)earned a Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Luz in Giant. She did win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1949 for her debut film performance in All The Kings Men. Other film creditsJohnny Guitar(1954), Suddenly Last Summer(1959), The Concorde:Airport 79 (1979) & Echoes(1983). Her TV credits include the early soap opera One Man's Family(1949-50) & Wire Service(1956-59). In the 70's Mercedes became president of an alcoholics rehabilitation center, won a Best Supporting Actress Tony nomination for The Love Suicide at Schofield Barrack's(1972), and achieved a rather dubious distiniction as the demonic voice of Linda Blair's tortured Regan in 1973's The Exorcist. His other credits Kentucky Kernels(1934), Alice Adams(1935), Annie Oakley(1935), Swing Time(1936), Gunga Din(1939), Penny Serenade(1941), Woman Of The Year(1942), The More The Merrier(1943), I Remember Mama(1948), A Place In The Sun(Best Director Oscar,1951), Shane(1953), Diary Of Anne Frank(1959), The Greatest Story Ever Told(1965) & The Only Game In Town(1970).
